Life can be simpler than we make it.
Echoes of Monterey is about those moments when we stop managing what comes next long enough to be present in the life we're already living.
Artwork Story
Seals drift above Monterey, swimming through an ocean that seems to have become the sky. Below them, the familiar waterfront sits quietly against the horizon.
I envy the simplicity of the seals. They seem free from so much of the complexity we build around living. They simply move through the world they're in.
Our lives aren't that simple. There will always be responsibilities, plans, work, and things that need our attention. But sometimes they take up so much space that we forget what all of it is supposed to make possible. To actually live.
That doesn't require an extraordinary day. It can be a trip somewhere with your family, a walk together, sharing stories, or even working side by side at home. It is being present and engaged with the people and the life that are here now. Tomorrow will come soon enough.
And perhaps a good day is simply one that leaves us thinking, “I lived today.”
