Some adventures begin with a map. Others begin with the courage to step into a paper boat.

Safe Harbor is about trusting yourself enough to explore, knowing that somewhere beyond the horizon there is a place where you belong. Whether she is setting out or finding her way home is left for you to decide.

Artwork Story

A paper boat isn't the safest way to cross a harbor. Maybe that's why I chose one.

To me, it represents the courage to do something differently, to trust that some journeys are worth taking even before you know exactly how they'll end.

The little girl is alone, not because she's lonely, but because this is her adventure. No one else can discover the world for her. I wanted her to feel brave enough to trust herself, even in a paper boat.

In the distance, a lighthouse quietly waits. To me, it represents something we all need: the reassurance that no matter how far we explore, we don't lose where we belong. Home isn't there to keep us from adventure. It gives us the confidence to have one.

I painted the scene at sunset because I imagined the day slowing down, but I never wanted to decide the ending. Is she returning after an unforgettable journey, or is she only beginning? I like that the painting leaves room for both possibilities.

I hope this painting reminds you that adventure is possible at any age. We are never too old to keep exploring, to keep dreaming, or to choose a different path simply because it feels like our own.

Maybe that's what the lighthouse has been saying all along.
