Artwork Story

Around Santa Cruz and San Francisco, watching the seals is part of the experience. People gather near the piers to watch them sleep, complain, climb over each other, and fight for the best spot on the platforms.

Low tide is especially entertaining. Sometimes getting up onto a platform takes several attempts, and before long there is an entire crowd cheering for a seal to make it.

We think we've come to watch them. But every once in a while, one looks right back. Maybe they're just as curious about us. Or maybe he's wondering why we're staring.
