Artwork Story

Growing up in the Czech Republic, going into the forest to look for mushrooms was a normal part of the year. Finding them was exciting, especially when you found a really big one or discovered a place where there were lots of them. People could be quite protective of their best mushroom spots.

That memory eventually found its way into this painting.

The little girl has discovered her own patch of mushrooms. But finding them isn't quite enough. She wants them to grow bigger, so she does what makes perfect sense to her: she gets a watering can.

The mushrooms probably don't need her help. They're growing perfectly well in a damp forest. But she isn't thinking about that. She sees something exciting, imagines what it could become, and decides to help it along.

There is something worth keeping in that way of thinking.
