The ducks need help, and she's there. Whether one little umbrella stands a chance against that wave doesn't seem to have entered into the decision.

Artwork Story

This painting grew from an earlier painting of mine, Splash Zone, and the idea that what we love is always worth protecting. I wanted to take that idea and make it simpler and a little more ridiculous.

There is a huge wave coming, a handful of rubber ducks in trouble, and a girl with an umbrella. It isn't much of a plan. But she doesn't stop to figure out whether she can actually make a difference. The ducks need help, and that's enough.

The child doesn't distinguish between what is realistic and what is worth trying.
